The ancient history, the good-natured emotionality of the local population, the warm climate, as well as the most delicious food in the world - all this attracts many tourists to Italy every year and forever remains in their memory a symbol of paradise on earth. If you wish, you can create a piece of the relaxed atmosphere of the Mediterranean at home! It is enough to decorate the interior of your kitchen in the Italian style, and then in a cozy atmosphere as often as possible get together with family and friends.

Features of the Italian style

Like other country trends, the Italian style was born not in the luxurious palaces of the aristocrats, but in the most ordinary village houses.

The most distinctive atmosphere was inherent in the central region of the country - sunny Tuscany. Due to the successful geographical location between the Apennine mountains and the sea coast, the inhabitants of that area had access to a large amount of natural materials. By the way, it was there from the time of the Roman Empire that the most valuable varieties of marble were mined - snow-white Carrara and banded zipoline. Thus, natural stone and wood formed the basis of the Tuscan interior.

As for the forms, classical symmetry and rude simplicity were mixed in them. This is not surprising, because most household items were made by hand using simple tools. With each generation, artisans improved their skills, and now Italian furniture is known throughout the world as the most reliable, beautiful and durable.

Italian-style kitchen materials and finishes

The traditional Tuscan house is easy to recognize by the abundance of chipped stone, ceramics, clay and wood. There should be no plastic, glass, chrome steel, metallized paints in it. When choosing materials, it is worth giving preference to natural, with the effect of antiquity.

For the floor, stained wood, frosted stone, porcelain stoneware or terracotta tiles with uneven coloring from the Gothic collections are suitable. The natural texture is the highlight of the style, so it is better to refuse paintwork and glaze. Oil impregnation will help protect the parquet from moisture, and fired ceramics in itself is resistant to any influences.

Walls can be plastered and painted with light paint with a warm undertone, or trimmed with embossed decorative stone (sandstone, slate).

The apron is usually covered with red or white clay tiles, often with bright hand-painted, or small mosaics.

To maintain the style, it is advisable to replace the entrance door to the kitchen with a wide, even in the entire wall, arched opening with brick trim around the edge. At the same time, the upper arc of the portal should be low, like half of an ellipse strongly elongated horizontally.

As for the windows, in Italian houses they are usually wooden without painting, rectangular or rounded on top, with thin lintels and shutters that can be closed. But this does not mean that you need to abandon the metal-plastic frame - it is enough to simply laminate a standard white film under a tree.

The ceilings in this interior are also special - they are often laid out with brickwork in the form of a vaulted arc, which does not rise with a dome, but rather resembles a tunnel. The best alternative to such a time-consuming option can be a ceiling with textured plaster and false beams. Of course, solid tree trunks or massive beams look more solid, but this is justified only in country houses, where they simultaneously carry a functional load.

Colors for the kitchen

The Italian style of the interior is characterized by a soft palette of autumn - the time when the crops are harvested, and the light of the sun becomes cozy and muted.

The lightest tones in this gamut are milky white, sand, yellow, light peach and beige. These colors are used mainly in wall decoration, but sometimes there are also sets of bleached colors. Bright shades of clay - ocher, terracotta, brick, fired red rightfully occupy a place wherever ceramics are used - whether it be the floor, walls, ceiling or utensils.

In the kitchen, “Italian” is not complete without a natural tree - from a reddish pine to a noble red-brown oak. As a rule, their surface has a warm undertone.

The colors of the surrounding nature - blue sky, blue sea waves, slightly withered grass, olives, grapes will also look harmoniously against the general background. Saturated, but slightly faded under bright rays, they are great for various decor, tiles and headsets.

Italian style kitchen furniture

Kitchen furniture in the Italian style at first sight attracts with its monumental appearance, solidity and quality. It’s immediately clear that these things are for centuries, in the spirit of antiques that have served more than one generation.

The most suitable material for such durable products is solid wood, processed simply, but with a soul. The facades are decorated with panels, sometimes - carved decor or lace inserts. The surface is covered with a transparent or tinting varnish, but so that the texture of the aged wood remains pronounced. Forged fittings of the color of brass, copper, bronze are most suitable for it.

The furniture is symmetrical in shape, as comfortable as possible in terms of ergonomics. Spacious cabinets and cabinets with large shelves, drawers, hooks, wicker baskets allow you to store many different utensils and products. Instead of facades, some shelves are closed with textile curtains - light, in a two-tone small cage or with still lifes.

The table top is usually made of stone - natural or artificial, mainly marble.

The table is certainly large, massive, with a smooth wooden surface and embossed edges. In shape, it is something between a rectangle and an oval. So that a large family can freely fit during the meal, strong benches and wide chairs with rounded backs are used.

A stylish addition - a wooden section for wine, in which the bottles are placed horizontally - can decorate the space above the dining area.

Italian style kitchen decor

It is interesting to decorate the Italian-style interior with things from peasant life: wicker baskets, braids of onions and garlic, bunches of dried herbs, greens in clay pots (for example, basil, rosemary, oregano).

Unglazed pottery, a wooden bread box, a brass pan and copper pots would be appropriate.

On the walls you can hang paintings with delightful Italian landscapes or autumn still lifes, make hand-painted paintings, murals or mosaics.

But still, the main decoration of such a kitchen should be food - for example, apples and grapes, various cheeses, olives, pastries.

Proper lighting in the kitchen

Italy is a southern country, so there is always a lot of natural daylight in the houses. Recreating a similar interior in a harsher climate, you need to take care of an artificial alternative to sunlight.

Ideal for this purpose are LED lamps with a warm white or yellowish spectrum. They can be mounted pointwise in the beams and shelves of the headset.

A chandelier is best chosen forged, in an old or even medieval design. It should be placed in the center of the kitchen, or in the center of the dining area above the table.
